Go the extra mile – the final mile or the last mile is the mile which touches most dramatically your customer. Everything leading up to the final or last mile certainly could impact them, such as delays but those precede the actual touch. Once you get to the final or last mile, go an extra mile. When asked to go one mile, or committed, give them more than what they expected or more than what you committed. The hair stylist can provide a fresh bottle of water, a cup of coffee or tea, a magazine that they can take with them, not just read. The lawn care man, can bring a newspaper, plant a flower, and each visit do something a little different from the last time that was not on the list – go the extra mile.
